Hi, I'm Gemma and I hope you enjoy ZUMBA® and all my other classes!
All my
ZUMBA® classes are open to new students and you can start any week you want to in my drop-in sessions at Aylesford, Strood, Rochester, Sittingbourne and Halling. You don't need any experience to take part, just wear comfortable exercise clothing and a good pair of trainers and definitely bring a bottle of water!
About GemmaI started my professional career dancing in many shows in a range of styles from Latin to Belly dance. This took me to to many places including France, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Greece, Spain and Cyprus. I also visited many Caribbean islands, Alaska, Hawaii and Central America while working on cruise ships. I was fortunate enough to experience life in hotels, holiday centres, circus and even the Arctic Circle too and have travelled to many parts of the world including Australia, Canada, Europe and the USA to explore my passion for travel and spent a month in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka as a volunteer teaching English, dance and sports to children at a local school. I also choreograph shows in Eastern Europe and North Africa for one of the world's leading hotel chains.
In mid-2009 I returned to the UK, after 10 years of travelling now and concentrate my time on learning new skills and exploring fitness programmes and dance genres while teaching regularly in schools, colleges, further education establishments, dance studios, gyms and community centres... in fact I teach anywhere with space!

GemmaTestimonials:
"When
I first heard of Zumba, the first thing I did was look up what it
involved and watched some videos. It looked difficult but thought I'd
give it a go. From my first class I was hooked. Not only was it fun and
the music upbeat, it was pretty easy to follow the routine and get into
the swing of what Zumba is. I like the fact that we do all styles of
dance and that each step sequence is named, for example 'rock and roll'
or 'salsa' so in future dances when a technical term is used,
automatically you can place the steps to the song. Gemma is a fantastic
teacher who goes at the pace of the class, and is clear with her
instructions. I would recommend Zumba to everyone of all ages and
abilites. Its a great way to excercise and have a laugh at the same
time." Katie"I have been going to Zumba since the
second week of January and absolutely love it! Gemma is a fab
instructor, makes you feel very relaxed and lets everyone work at their
own pace - such a brilliant way to lose weight and tone. I look forward
to the classes which is unusual because I dislike exercise a lot! Zumba
is one massive party!" AmyTHE FOLLOWING WAS WRITTEN BY JAYE NOLAN and is displayed on http://www.rochesterpeople.co.uk/
"There’s
a new dance and it’s going around, called the b... no, it’s called
Zumba! I joined in a class today at Dance Junction and had to let you
know how fab-u-lous it was!
Zumba at Dance Junction
Run
by Gemma Quinnell, Zumba is a mix of rhythms and styles, all wrapped up
in an effective fitness package. I’ve attended many a similar class in
my time; this is definitely the one for me. Where other classes I've
attended elsewhere will have you learning a couple of different routines
throughout the hour, with you struggling to remember what comes next
(and ending up most of the session half heartedly trying to watch and
move at the same time) Zumba teaches you a handy sized segment, small
enough to remember and dance the majority of the song once you’ve got
it, but big enough that you don’t get repetitive bore syndrome.
The
music, and therefore the routines themselves, vary from street to
Latin, with some Bollywood thrown in - it was all I could do not to
shout out “Jai Ho!” Never done Bollyood before, can’t wait for another
go! With some recognisable moves (Cuban Breaks, basic Cha Cha and
African Walks) I was able to pick up the first routine pretty quickly
and slotted in among a very respectable class full for a Thursday
morning – a friendly, happy bunch all having a great time, I might add.
Sometimes, going along to a new place can be a little intimidating –
this wasn’t one of them.
Zumba is one of the fastest growing
fitness workouts, proven to be effective in weight loss; Gemma’s Tuesday
night class actually takes place in the main hall, such is its
popularity.
There’s also the added bonus that, if you’re in the
kitchen doing the dinner and Jennifer Hudson’s 'Spotlight' comes on the
radio, it’s all the space you need for a mini three minute workout!
If
you love dancing, then do visit Dance Junction soon as – I don’t think
there’s any style they don’t offer a class in, just check out their website
for a timetable that includes Irish Dancing, Bollywood, Streetdance and
coming soon, a Michael Jackson Dance Workshop! If only I were twenty
years, younger, fitter and didn’t have to work for a living – I could
happily stay there all day, every day!"
PRESS:The success of these classes have been so big that they have featured in newspapers including: Dancing in the South East (now Dancing in the UK), East Kent Gazette, Sheppey Gazette, Kent Messenger, Kent Mama, Nubia magazine and also on KMFM radio. You can read these articles by clicking here.
